Your questions, answered

  • Technically yes, but in most cases, it’s advisable to treat the well water first.

Well water often contains high levels of iron, manganese, hardness, or total dissolved solids (TDS), which can damage your plants and clog your irrigation systems.

If you’re unsure about the water quality in your well, we recommend a water test. This will tell you exactly how your well water is composed and what kind of treatment it needs to be suitable for irrigation in your greenhouse.

If you need help finding the ideal setup, get in touch >

  • The service intervals for your irrigation water treatment system vary and depend on a few factors such as the setup you choose, inlet water quality and level of water usage.

You need to replace pre-filters and RO membranes regularly, although you can elongate those intervals for the latter by installing a CIP station that periodically cleans the membranes.

Here are some typical replacement intervals:

    • Mechanical pre-filters: 8–12 weeks (might be shorter if your irrigation water has high turbidity)
    • RO membranes: last up to 3 years (maybe longer if you use a CIP system)
    • UV lamps: once a year

For bigger plant nurseries, greenhouses and garden centres, we recommend our IoT-ready water treatment solutions: these smart systems allow you to monitor water quality and system performance remotely, allowing for maintenance planning, reducing downtimes and ensuring consistent water output.

Discover our IoT-ready reverse osmosis systems

  • While it’s not strictly necessary to use a reverse osmosis (RO) system for irrigation water, it is highly recommended: this technology is ideally suited to prepare your local water for watering plants.

Reverse osmosis effectively reduces salinity, sodium, chloride, and total hardness of your local water, making it perfect for watering sensitive crops.

With an RO filter, you can ensure stable EC levels and prevent salt buildup on plant leaves and in the soil, while at the same time protecting sensitive irrigation equipment like misting and fogging systems.

RO systems for your horticulture business

  • Poor water quality can block nutrient uptake and increase the need for chemical correction.

If you use high-quality water in your irrigation, crops can absorb the nutrients more effectively, which reduces the need for fertilisers and improves yields.

At the same time, pure water (e.g. after reverse osmosis) can reduce soil erosion in agriculture and positively impact growth and development of your crops.

  • The standardised construction of our modular solutions allows you to build exactly the water treatment solution you need.

Our irrigation water treatment systems are compact and can be combined to serve any horticultural or agricultural operation from small garden centres to medium plant nurseries and large, industrial greenhouses or produce farms.

All irrigation water treatment systems are designed for easy integration, maintenance, and use.

This is one of our most popular product combinations for irrigation:

In addition, many greenhouse operators like to install a CIP station for RO membrane maintenance and to prevent scale formation.

Get help in planning your irrigation water treatment setup

  • Yes, of course!

Ecosoft has a number of mobile water treatment units such as containerised solutions or skid-mounted systems you can use on seasonal or remote farms.

All of these mobile water treatment units are plug-and-play solutions that provide pure water for your irrigation or humidification as well as clean drinking water for your farm personnel.

  • Yes.

When there’s nothing but water in your irrigation water, fertilisers and pesticides only work where you need them to – clean water improves the precision of fertigation, reduces reaction with dissolved salts, and lowers the risk of chemical inefficiencies or waste.

This leads to lower input cost and better crop health.
